1757 - Charles Coats from Daniel S...Coats MD deeds

1757 - Charles Coats from Daniel Steward wife Rebecca Steuart - 100 acres - Holding Spring - F152

1761 - Wm Coats from Charles Coats Wm named as Chas’ son - 100 aces - Holding Spring - Sophia wife of Chas dower release - - G 117 (it appears Chas sold his land on Holdings Spring to his son Wm - )

1761 - Charles Coats from Robert Pearle - no wife mentioned for Pearle - Flints Grove -
G 318

1767 - Michael Coats from John Poole- K1381

1767 - Wm Coats to Edmond Rigges - L 37

1768 - Wm and Chas Coats - Chas father of Wm to Thomas Green - Flints Grove - Mary Coats wife of Wm dower release no wife mentioned for Chas L 164 (this could indicate that Sophia was deceased by 1768 - could be the land of 1761 from Pearle but that appears to have only Chas Coats named in the deed)

1769 - Wm Coats from Jacob Cline jr - L 424

1772 - Wm Coats Mary Coats wife of Wm dower release to Thomas Talbot - Vertches Loss - P 441 (this would indicate that Mary wife of Wm was still living in 1772 - Wm Coats wife Frances in SC is a Quaker at Bush River Monthly meeting by 1783 - somehow connected to this group and the Coats in Kershaw County SC - Notley Coats and James Coats in SC are found to be the sons of Charles Coats on early tax records - it is possible the Charles Coats in Sc is also the father of Wm Coats of SC and that they had moved to SC together ) there should be an explanation for the Quaker connection however … most perplexing )

1772 - Charles Coats to Wm Dennis - Daniel’s Discovery - no wife or dower release for Chas - P529

I found no further deed records from the 1700s - earlier plats need to be checked as well as later deeds in the 1800s

Land usually granted to Quakers was in parcels of 100 acres - in this early era - I do believe they were Quaker in MD and if the same Wm (Frances could have been a second wife - but still no explanation why a wife in MD is Mary and then wife in SC is Frances - possible second marriage) in SC he left the faith about the time his son Wm was born … Wm married Nancy Baker and this line became Baptist

Quaker records show William Coats in Newberry MM as early at 1783 … and I believe other land records show him there in the 1770s as well …Cherokee Basketshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14370474388373212376noreply@blogger.com
